About Yogini Ekadashi 2025

Significance of Yogini Ekadashi

Yogini Ekadashi come on Krishna Paksha of Ashadha month. No doubt, it is a different Ekadashi. The name of Ashadha Krishna Ekadashi is Yogini. All sins are destroyed by doing this fast. It gives enjoyment in this world and salvation in the hereafter. It is famous among the three peoples.

The speakers of this Vrat Katha are Shri Krishna and Maharishi Markandeya. The audience is Yudhisthira and Hemmali.

When Yudhishthira asks the name and significance of the Yogini Ekadashi fast in the Krishna Paksha of Ashadha month, Vasudev tells this story.

Yogini Ekadashi Vrat Katha

Sri Krishna told to Yudhisthira, I will tell you the story described in the Puranas, listen carefully.

There is a city named as Alkapuri. The king named Kubera was the king of that city. He was a devotee of Shiva and worshiped Shiva daily. There a gardener named Hemamali used to bring flowers from his garden for regular worship. Hemamali had a beautiful woman named Vishalakshi. One day he brought flowers from Mansarovar for the kin g, but unable to give him, because of lust he started joking and playing with his wife and the king's flower went away.

Here the king watched his way until noon. Finally, King Kubera ordered the servants that you go and find out the reason why the gardener did not come, because he has not yet brought flowers.

The servants said that his Majesty is a sinful adulterer, who must be joking and having fun with his wife. Hearing this, Kubera got angry and called him.

Hemamali appeared trembling in fear of the king. King Kubera got angry and said, 'Oh! sinner! Despicable! Cami! You have disrespected my most revered Shri Shivji Maharaj, I couldn't even worship properly today because of you, so I curse you that you will suffer the separation of a woman and go to the netherworld as a leper.'

King Kubera's curse caused Hemamali to fall from heaven and he fell to earth at that moment. As soon as he came to the ground floor, his body was covered with white leprosy. His wife also became conscious at that time. Coming to the world of death, the gardener experienced great suffering, went to the terrible forest and wandered without food or water. He could not sleep at night, but due to the effect of worshiping Shivaji, he had the knowledge of the memory of his previous life.

One day while wandering he reached the hermitage of sage Markandeya, who was older than Brahma and whose hermitage looked like Brahma's assembly. Hemamali went there and fell at his feet.

Seeing him, Sage Mararkandeya said, "What sin have you committed, under the influence of which this condition has become?" Hema mali told the whole story. After hearing this, the sage said, you have definitely spoken the truth in front of me, so I will help you definitely. Sage tells, if you do fast on Ekadashi called Yogini of Krishna Paksha of Asadha month, then all your sins will be destroyed.

Hearing this, Hemamali was very happy and prostrated to the sage. Sage picked him up with affection. Hemamali observed Yogini Ekadashi fast according to the sage's instructions. By the effect of this fast, he returned to his old form and started living happily with his wife and live with a happy life.
