About Hartalika Teej 2025

Signifcance of Hartalika Teej

Hartalika Vrat is also called Hartalika Teej(हरतालिका तीज) or Teeja. This fast take place on the day of Hasta Nakshatra on the Tritiya of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. On this day, virgins and auspicious women worship Gauri-Shankar. Yah vrat bahut hi is considered to be difficult because in this fast, Nirjala fast is done for the whole day and the fast is completed only after the puja on the next day. A belief related to this fast is that the women who perform this fast go to Shivlok after passing happily just like Parvati ji.

Lucky women fast on Haritalika Teej to keep their marriage intact and unmarried girls to get a groom of their choice. First of all, this fast was kept by Mother Parvati for Lord Shiva Shankar. Gauri-Shankar is specially worshiped on this day. Women fasting on this day get up before sunrise and bathe and apply full makeup. For worship, a mandap is made of banana leaves and the idol of Gauri-Shankar is installed. Along with this, Aarti is performed three times by chanting hymns and kirtans to Parvati and the story of Shiva Parvati's marriage is heard.

Both virgin girls and married women are eligible for this fast, but after keeping the fast once, this fast has to be kept for life. If the fasting woman is seriously ill, then another woman and her husband can also observe this fast in her place.

Mostly people of eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar celebrate this fast. This fast is also observed in Maharashtra because Ganesh is installed on the next day on Ganesh Chaturthi (गणेश चतुर्थी).

The fasting person of this fast is forbidden to sleep, for this he has to wake up at night with bhajan kirtan. After taking a bath in the morning, one should donate cosmetics, clothes, food, fruits, sweets and ornaments to a suitable woman with respect and devotion. This fast is considered very important. Every lucky woman considers it her greatest privilege to observe this fast.
