About Mokshada Ekadashi 2025
Introduction to Mokshada Ekadashi (मोक्षदा एकादशी)
Mokshada Ekadashi is considered to be a big Ekadashi. It is said that by observing a fast on this Ekadashi, people's sins are destroyed and they finally attain salvation. That is why it is named Moksha+da, which means the one who gives salvation. The devotee finally goes to Vaikunth Dham.
On the occasion of Mokshada Ekadashi, it is celebrated as Gita Jayanti, the same day when Krishna gave the holy sermon of the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna, as described in the Hindu epic Mahabharata.
Mokshada Ekadashi has Great Significance
When Yudhishthira came to know that Ekadashi has great significance, all the Pandavas, like Yudhishthira, Arjuna, Nakul and Sahadeva, except Bhima, used to observe Ekadashi fast wholeheartedly. Bhima used to observe only Nirjala Ekadashi fast because he could not bear hunger.
Shri Krishna also told Yudhishthira a lot about Mokshada Ekadashi and told the importance of Ekadashi here, why it is named Mokshada Ekadashi, he told all this to Yudhishthira.
Shri Krishna said to Yudhishthira, Oh Kunti Nandan! I am telling you the importance of Mokshada Ekadashi in detail, please listen.
The Story of Mokshada Ekadashi
In ancient times there was a king named Vaikhanas in Gokul. One night he dreamt that after the death of his father he was facing a lot of troubles. The king was very sad to see his father in such a condition. In the morning, he called his royal priest and said, "Please tell me the solution for my father's salvation."
It is claimed that the ashram of Raja Parvat Mahatma in Amer is the path to his father's salvation. The Mahatma told him that "his father had committed a sin in his previous life, due to which he is suffering in hell and is not getting salvation."
The king asked the Mahatma about the solution to get rid of this sin. On this, the Mahatma said that 'You should do the fast and worship of Mokshada Ekadashi, which falls in the Shukla Paksha of Margashirsha month, with devotion, so that your father will attain salvation safely.' The king observed the fast of Mokshada Ekadashi with sincerity as per the Mahatma's advice and after that his father attained salvation and finally, he attained salvation. Along with this, the king also received the blessings of Shri Hari as well as his father. We are just humans; we know only about this birth. But Lord Shri Krishna, who is Shri Hari Vishnu himself, has seen many of our births and deaths and he knows the account of all that. One who has followed the footsteps of Shri Hari can never go astray. After a few days, he starts thinking about his thoughts. Like who am I? What is the meaning of my birth on this earth? What should be my deeds? What are my friends as a human being? I have shared a little of what came to my mind. The rest you already know, “Hari is many…Hari has many stories”.
