How Dhanu Sankranti Formed?
On the first day of December or Pausha month, the Sun enters Sagittarius Zodiac Sign. That is why, it is known as Dhanu Sankranti. This Sankranti is more special than all other 12 Sankranti. Because in Pausha month, Sun stays in Pushya Nakshatra. It is considered very good when Sun is in Pushya Nakshatra and Sun Narayan gives good results here and fulfils everyone's wishes.
Significance of Dhanu Sankranti
This is an auspicious occasion on Sun God's zodiac change. Sun God will transit in Sagittarius for 30 days. Sun God transits in every zodiac and thus transits in 12 zodiac signs for 12 months in a year. That is why the season changes and according to the season, there is a change in nature. Dhanu Sankranti is celebrated on the date when Sun God descends in Sagittarius.
Significance of Dhanu Sankranti
“Kharmas” will start from this day. No auspicious work is done during the “Kharmas”. According to astrologers, Jupiter has an influence on Sun's Sagittarius or Pisces sign. For this, auspicious work is not done during these months. During this time, the Sun God is worshiped and adored. Worshiping the Sun God gives the glory of a healthy life.

How Should Surya Puja be Done on Dhanu Sankranti?
“Dhanu Sankranti” Pujan is something special than other Sankranti, you can follow the steps are given below:
- Get up early in the morning, take a bath and wear clean clothes, it is very good to wear red or yellow clothes.
- Stand facing the east and offer Arghya to Surya Narayana.
- Do Sankalp before Surya Pujan. Put red flowers, rice, Kumkum, turmeric etc. in water in a copper pot.
- While offering Arghya to Lord Sun, chant Sun God's mantras, such as 'Om Suryaya Namah' or 'Om Ghrini Suryaya Namah' or 'Om Adityaya Namah'.
- Offer red color flowers and light a ghee lamp and burn incense sticks as well as offer Arghya with a copper or brass small vessel to Lord Sun God.
- Offer jaggery, red color fruits, snacks made with jaggery like Tilkut, Gajak or other home-made sweets, foods as Naivedya to Sun God.
- Perform “Kapoorarti” of Lord Surya.
- If you can do read “Aditya Hridaya Stotra” that would be very auspicious for you.
- Finally, you need to apologize for any mistake made during the Surya Pujan.
- If possible, donate grains, clothes, money or any service according to your capacity.
- If possible, feeding green fodder to cows is also considered auspicious on this day.
- you should take one time food without salt and oil. Avoid tamasic food on this day, eat pure and Saatvik food. Tamasic food includes non-vegetarian food, alcohol and sex should be avoided.
- For better and fast result, this puja you should be done in the early morning on every Sunday in Pausha Month.
