About Chandra Grahan 2025

Meaning & Significance of Chandra Grahan

Chandra Grahan or Lunar Eclipse is the cause of Moon. It is the astronomical condition when the moon comes directly behind the earth and falls in its shadow. This can happen when the sun, earth and moon are situated in a straight line in this order. Due to this quadrant restriction, Moon can be understood only on full moon.

Because on the full moon day the sun and the moon are face to face. Types and duration of the moon restrictions are imposed on the position of the moon with respect to the lunar astral. This form of the moon is also called 'Blood Moon'. During this time the moon is considered very inauspicious, and the rays are emanating from it are also not considered good. That is why whether it is a lunar eclipse or a solar eclipse, one should not look at it with naked eyes, it has a very negative effect. After the lunar eclipse starts, it first appears black and then gradually turns into bright red color.

Significance of Chandra Grahan

Grahan Kaal or time is very auspicious for japa siddhi, mantra siddhi. This time is not auspicious for any puja or rituals. But anyone can do mantra japa during the time.

It is said that chanting mantra during the solar or lunar eclipse period, is the best time to attain mantra success. Japa done during the Grahan period gives 10,000 times the result compared to the rest of the time, and the mantra also becomes successful very quickly.

Moreover, many sadhus and mahatmas wait for the Grahan Kaal, and attain siddhi by chanting the mantra during this time. Whether it is Surya Grahan or Chandra Grahan, chanting mantra at the time of any Grahan provides a lot of success.

There is a Sutak period before the eclipse, no auspicious work is done in it, puja, path, havan tarpan, all these are prohibited. During the Sutak period, no item in the house has to be touched after Grahan period is over, one should bath and cleaned and then it has to be purified all the items available in the house. after Grahan period one should not eat full during eclipse period means your gut should be empty for that time. After the eclipse is done, the leftover food in the house like roti, rice, dal, curry, all this is thrown away.
