Importance of Bhadarpada Purnima

The importance of Purnima is very auspicious. Good deeds are always done on Shukla Paksha and Purnima. There are 12 Purnimas come in a year and each Purnima come once in a month. In Bhadara month, a Purnima comes known as Bhadrapad Purnima. Bhadra Purnima is also called Indra Purnima by some people. However, during the Bhadra Purnima, Indra Jatra is celebrated in Nepal. There the people wearing mask of goddess, and god, sits in the chariot and travels with the procession on the road.

Shri Satyanarayan ji is worshiped in every Purnima. Purnima is celebrated as the day of Mother Lakshmi as well as Lord Vishnu. Worshiping Lakshmi on Purnima day definitely brings prosperity in the house. Both Purnima and Friday are dear to Goddess Lakshmi. In such a situation, worshiping Goddess Lakshmi on this day increases wealth, name, fame and prosperity.

Significance of Bhadrapada Purnima

Bhadrapada Purnima has a lot of religious importance. Many types of religious rituals are performed on this day. It is believed that worshiping on this day destroys all sins and attains salvation.

Pitru Paksha shradh also started from this Purnima till Amavasya of Bhadrapad month. The month of Bhadrapada is also very auspicious. During this time, Shraddha of ancestors is performed and Pind Daan is offered to them. Bhadrapada Purnima is considered to be the first day of Pitru Paksha Shradha. Worship of Lord Vishnu and Satyanarayan Katha on the day of Bhadrapada Purnima. It is believed that by worshiping Lord Vishnu on this day, all the wishes are fulfilled.

Worship method of Bhadrapada Purnima

Wake up early in the morning and take bath in Ganga water or any holy river. Clean the place of worship and sprinkle it with Ganga water. Worship Lord Vishnu or Mother Lakshmi by lighting a lamp. Chant the mantras of Goddess Lakshmi along with Lord Vishnu. By observing fast on this day, wishes are fulfilled. Donating on this day brings virtue.

After worshiping and chanting, Lord Vishnu gets pleased quickly by performing Aarti of Shri Narayan and Maha Lakshmi with camphor.

What to do on Bhadrapada Purnima?

  • Take special care of purity on this day.
  • It is very important to speak the truth on this day.
  • Donating on this day brings virtue. One should not get angry on this day. Keep positive thoughts in mind. One should avoid lying on this day.
  • The devotee should not hurt anyone. Negative thoughts should be avoided. Impure food should not be consumed.
  • One should not think bad or do bad to anyone.
