How Mithuna Sankranti Formed?
When the Sun enter into the Mithuna or Gemini Zodiac Sign, then Mithuna Sankranti formed. It comes in June or July month as per English Calendar. Mithun Sankranti’s significance is also very important. Taking bath and donating on this day brings auspicious results. On this day, there is a law to worship Lord Sun. It is said that worshipping Sun God on this occasion expands the field of work along with this, happiness comes in life.
Significance of Mithuna Sankranti
Sankranti is the process of the Sun entering from one zodiac sign to another. There are twelve Sankranti in a year. In Odisha, this festival of Mithun Sankranti is called 'Raja Sankranti' and is celebrated in the name of Raja Sankranti. Worshiping Sun God on this day gives the blessing of health and freedom from all kinds of physical sufferings.
Mithuna Sankranti is called Six Faced Sankranti. This is an important event of the Sun entering from one zodiac sign to another and it also has astrological effects. After Sankranti, all charity and auspicious works are done on the day of sixteen Ghati, which is considered auspicious.
In many places, grinding stone and mortar are also worshipped on this day. In eastern and northeastern India, like in West Bengal and Odisha, 'Mithuna Sankranti' is celebrated as the menstruation of Goddess Earth.
Mithuna Sankranti Puja Vidhi
- Wake up early in the morning, take a bath and wear clean clothes, wearing red- or yellow-coloured clothes is very good.
- Offer water to the Sun God facing the east.
- Put red flowers, rice and Kumkum, turmeric etc. in water in a copper pot.
- Chant the mantras of the Sun God, such as 'Om Suryaya Namah' or 'Om Ghrini Suryaya Namah' or 'Om Adityaye Namah'.
- Light up a ghee lamp and show incense.
- Offer jaggery, tilkut, fruits or other home-made sweets to the Sun God.
- Perform Aarti at the end.
- You must apologize for any mistake made during the puja.
- Donate grains, clothes, or money as per your capacity.
- Feeding green fodder to cows is also considered auspicious on this day.
- Eat pure and Satvik food on this day. Avoid tamasic things like non-veg, alcohol, sex, quarrelling with abuse words with others.
