About Chaitra Amavasya 2025

Meaning and Importance of Chaitra Amavasya

Every Amavasya has its own importance. There is one Amavasya in every month. It is considered very good to give “Shraddh” to your ancestors on Amavasya or to donate something in their name. One Amavasya comes in such a Chaitra month.

Chaitra Amavasya is good for auspicious work and freedom from many types of defects, so in Sanatan Dharma, not only Chaitra but every month's vegetable has special importance. Chaitra Amavasya is known as Madhu Amavasya in Odisha. Let us know about the mythological story of this festival.

Chaitra Amavasya Vrat Katha

It is a matter of a long time ago that a king ruled in a city. The king was a very good person and he respected everyone. Both the people of that kingdom and the royal family lived happily and the king's queen was also very religious. In front of the palace, there was a mansion of a moneylender who was the king's dearest friend.

It so happened that the moneylender's son died and the crying of the moneylender's wife started echoing all around. Hearing that, the queen asked the king the reason for the moneylender's wife's crying, then the king told everything.

Then the queen asked, "What is sorrow?"

To this the king said, "When your son dies, then you will know the meaning of death."

It is claimed that the queen threw her son down from the palace, but by the grace of God he survived.

The queen again asked, "What is sorrow?" Then the king said that he was going to fight a war in the neighboring kingdom. When the news of his death came, the queen would get the answer.

But the queen's fast was done because the king returned victorious. The queen was given her answer, so she asked again.

After this the king said, "Now we will go to visit Ganga Maa. When I jump into the river Ganga there, then you will know the meaning of sorrow."

While the king and queen were talking, Lord Shiva was watching everything. He said to Goddess Parvati, "Come, today I will show you a happy soul." After which Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati came to the mortal world in the form of a goat.

Both of them started grazing grass near a well. Then the queen came there to rest and a fight was going on between Shiva and Parvati. She heard Lord Shiva saying to Goddess Parvati that, "The queen observes the queen's fast, so she does not have to suffer any sorrow in life nor does she learn to suffer in the future."

The queen, who heard this, understood everything and started saying in her mind that really, I did not know that the importance of Amavasya fast is so much. From this story you must have come to know what is the value of Amavasya fast, very few people know about it.
