About Pa Togan Nengminza Sangma Anniversary 2025

Who is Pa Togan Nengminza Sangma?

The government officials of Meghalaya pay tribute to the martyred Garo veteran Pa Togan on 12 December every year. This day is a public holiday in the state of Meghalaya on the occasion of his mushaira.

Pa Togan Sangma was a Great Freedom Fighter

Pa Togan Sangma was a great freedom fighter against the British rulers. He is also known as Togan Sangma or Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma. He was a man belonging to the Garo tribe. A special tribe called the Chik tribe. Pa Togan Sangma was a leader of the Garo peak in North East India.

The Story of Pa Togan Sangma

Pa Togan Nengminja was a brave fighter; he was a man who fought bravely against the British. He was very famous due to when the attack took place, the British soldiers were sleeping at that time, he attacked some soldiers. Waking up from sleep due to the screams of his comrades, the remaining British soldiers retaliated. This unfortunate incident happened because they were open as Garo warriors.

However, many British soldiers were killed in this attack and suffered heavy losses. But unfortunately, some other British soldiers attacked on Pa Togan Nengminza and killed him with his weapons.

After the martyrdom of Pa Togan Nengminza, his regiment surrendered in front of the British army, which had guns unlike the Garo warriors. The biggest thing is that, he is known as a chemist to his friends, using huge lumps from a banana stem. He knew that the soldered metal on the shield would be the discoverer. However, in the end it was not successful. They all got shot by the bullets of the British soldiers and died there. To liberate our Hindustan, we don't know how many such lakhs of people have sacrificed their lives happily. We bowed and salute them for such great freedom fighters.

Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!
