About Sonam Losar 2025

Losar Festival

During Tibetan rule, each family of the Memba tribe under Kongpo Agegap(कोंगपो एगेगैप) had to send one male to war. With his return from the battlefield uncertain, Losar festival was celebrated a month earlier, this festival was named 'Sonam Losar(सोनम लोसर)' to bid farewell to the past year and wish a happy and prosperous life in the coming year. The three-day festival is the center of many traditions and customs.

Day 1: Nangamay Losar(नांगमय लोसार)

On the first day, "Nangamay Losar" is celebrated by the Memba community among their family at home.

Day 2: Lame Losar(लंगड़ा लोसर)

On the second day of Sonam Losar called "Lame Losar", Membas go to the Gompa or Monastery to pray for long life, followed by visiting homes and celebrating amid entertainment, songs and dances. shooting arrows, Games like shot put and discus throw are also played.

Day 3: Drongba Losar(ड्रोंगबा लोसार)

On the third day, the Memba celebrate "Drongba Losar" by hoisting Buddhist flags on their homes. Flags are hoisted on the hills even during prayers.
