About Phagu Dashmi 2025

Phagu Dashami (फागु दशमी), celebrated on the day of Phalguna Month Shukla Dashami tithi, marks the beginning of the six-day Dola Purnima festival at Puri's Srimandir. It is celebrated six days before the Poornima (full moon day) in the month of Phalguna as per the traditional Odia calendar. Dola Purnima, also known as Dolayatra, is the Holi festival in Odisha and is celebrated over 10 days. The festival celebrates the eternal love of Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha, from Phagu Dashami to Dola Purnima, idols of Lord Krishna and Radha are placed in swings and worshipped. The six-day festival is observed by households, temples and spiritual organisations across the state. Special rituals have also begun at Puri Srimandir on the occasion. Today, after the completion of 'Madhyan Dhoop', the Holy Trinity will perform the 'Mailaama' ritual and after that they will wear a special red dress. The deities at the temple will be dressed in 'Chachri Besha' and offered 'Chachri Bhog(चाचरी भोग)' till the next Chaturdashi, while the sibling deities will be adorned with a variety of ornaments.

After receiving the 'Agnyamaala(अग्न्यामाला)', the moving idols of "Dola Govind" representing Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswati along with Lord Jagannath will be taken to an altar called Dola Vedi at the Sri Jagannath Ballava Matha where special rituals will be performed.

Finally, Dola Purnima(दोल पूर्णिमा) rituals will be performed at the temple on March 25 when the sibling deities will be adorned with golden attires. Lakhs of devotees are expected to visit the temple to pay homage to the deities on Dola Purnima.
