About Magha Purnima 2025

Magh Purnima, which falls on the full moon date in the month of Magh, is one of the auspicious days for Hindus. It is also called Agni Utsav Purnima.

Maghi Purnima, also known as Magh Purnima, is observed on the full moon day that falls in the Hindu calendar month of Magh. This day falls in the Gregorian calendar month of January or February. During this time period, the auspicious Kumbh Mela is held every twelve years, and the Magh Mela is held on an annual basis at the confluence of three rivers or Triveni Sangam around North India, in cities such as Allahabad or Prayag.

Devotees pray to Lord Vishnu on this occasion, observe Satyanarayana Vrat and bathe in the Ganges River for spiritual purposes. They also perform charity and pray to Chandra Dev. People bathe in the Ganges or Yamuna early in the morning during the month of Magh. Magh Purnima is the culmination of the daily bathing ritual that began from Paush Purnima. It is believed that all charity and pious deeds performed at this time yield immediate results. Therefore people donate to the needy according to their capacity.
