When did the Vikram Samvat Calendar Originate?

The first day of the Vikram Samvat calendar is on come in November month.

The Vikram Samvat Calendar system originated from an era called Vikram, which can be traced back to an inscription dated 842 BCE. It is also linked to an inscription dated 971 CE which is associated with King Vikramaditya. Many historians dispute this and believe that it was King Chandragupta Two who gave himself the title of Vikramaditya and also changed the name of the era to "Vikram Samvat".

The Significance of Vikram Samvat

Vikram Samvat is a calendar system used by Hindu and Sikh communities in many parts of the Indian subcontinent.

This calendar system is based on the solar sidereal year and lunar months. While it is the official calendar of Nepal, in India it is used as a regional calendar in several states, particularly in west, north and central India. The day is also a regional public holiday in the state of Gujarat, Where it is usually celebrated the day after the festival of Diwali. In the Hindu calendar, this day falls on the first day of the month of Kartika, which is the eighth month of the calendar, which has Amavasya.

The importance of Vikram Samvat is very important in the calendar system. Whenever any Puja, Havan, Yagna, tradition, marriage, worldly, charity, religion etc. is done then it is necessary to take the name of Vikram Samvat at that time and it is necessary to take the name of Vikram Samvat in thought. Whereas, our New Year’s Day is the beginning of the month called Chaitra, which is the month of April in the Gregorian calendar.
