About Seng Kut Snem 2025

Introduction to Seng Kut Snem (सेंग कुट स्नेम)

Seng Khasi is highly respected and universally accepted as the custodian of the Khasi way of life.

Seng Kut Snem is a tribal festival of the Khasi tribal area in Meghalaya and Shillong region.

The Seng Khasi festival movement started on November 23, 1899, at Mawkhar in Shillong. It was founded by sixteen young Khasi tribal men under the mentorship and guidance of U Babu Jiban Roy, who was an educationist, entrepreneur and proponent of indigenous beliefs and culture of the time.

The sixteen founders were concerned about the loss of traditional Khasi culture and values due to the influence of British colonial rule and Christian missionaries. But now these days there are more than 300 branches spread across the Khasi Hills in the Meghalaya regions.

Seng Khasi Movement

The Seng Khasi movement is one of the oldest and most respected cultural preservation movements in India, especially among the tribal communities.

It has been working for more than a century to preserve the ancient traditions, cultural dances, traditional music, arts and crafts of the Khasis. The Seng Khasi also places great emphasis on keeping alive the ancient knowledge of Khasi spirituality and indigenous faith.

The Seng Khasi Movement remains a vital and influential force in the Khasi Hills region, and plays a vital role in creating awareness and pride in Khasi culture and religion. The Seng Khasi is a political and is not involved in any political affairs.
