Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was born on October 31, 1875 and died on December 15, 1950. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti is celebrated every year on 31 October.

His full name was Vallabhbhai Jhaver Bhai Patel and he was born in Nadiad, of Gujarat State. He was very well known as Sardar Patel. He was a senior leader of the Indian National Congress who played a leading role in the country's freedom struggle. Served with distinction as the Home Minister during the political integration of India during the India-Pakistan War in 1947. He also served as the Deputy Prime Minister of India that time.

Vallabhbhai Patel was a successful lawyer. He later organized the farmers of Kheda, Borsad and Bardoli of Gujarat in non-violent civil disobedience against the British Rulers. Vallabhbhai Patel was extremely loyal to Gandhi and organized relief efforts for refugees fleeing Pakistan to Punjab and Delhi as well as worked to restore peace.

He led the work of creating a united India, successfully integrating the British colonial provinces that were 'allocated' to India into the new independent nation. It was Patel who convinced almost every princely state to join India. His commitment to national integration in the newly independent country was total and unwavering, earning him the title of "Iron Man of India" called Lauha Manav. He is also remembered as the "Patron Saint of Civil Servants of India" for establishing the modern All India Service System.
