About Nrusingha Janma 2025

Who is Narasimha?

Lord Narasimha is the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This Narasimha Avtaar is the incarnation of the fiercest form of Shri Hari Vishnu. Though, Lord Vishnu is very calm as well as cool by nature. The Narasimha Avtaar is also one of the most worshiped incarnations. According to the Vishnu Purana, there was a powerful demon named Hiranyakashyapa. Who is troubled people a lot in the earth. By performing a lot of penance, he had attained such a state that it was impossible for him to die, means no one can die him. Even then no one was afraid of him at all. We will discuss this further below. So, Lord Shri Vishnu took birth on earth with half human body and half lion head to kill this demon. The day Lord Narasimha is incarnated in the iconic incarnation of the man-cum-lion is celebrated as Lord Narasimha Jayanti.

Narasimha Jayanti is celebrated on Chaturdashi Tithi during Shukla Paksha in Vaishakh Month. According to the Gregorian calendar, this day comes in the month of April or May.

Narasimha Avatar Katha

Now let us discuss about the Narasimha Avatar.

Prahlad, the son of Hiranyakashyapa, became devoted to Vishnu due to Prahlad's childhood in Narada's ashram.

Angered by his son praying to his archenemy, Hiranyakashyapa tried to teach him various scholastics, with Shukra Dev, but to no avail. The king decided that such a son must die. He employed poison, snakes, elephants, fire and warriors to kill Prahlada, but the boy was saved by every attempt at praying to Lord Vishnu. When the royal priests attempted to teach the prince once again, he converted the other students to Vaishnavism. The priests created a trident to kill the boy, but killed them, after which Prahlada revived them once again.

Not only this, Hiranyakashyapa given the task to Shambarasura and Vayu to kill Prahalad, but they were caught. Finally, the demon released his sons from the noose of the cymbals and threw them from the mountains into the sea to crush them but Prahlad remained safe by the grace of Lord Vishnu. Frustrated, Hiranyakashyapa searched where the Vishnu lived, and how he came so quickly and protected him? He asked Prahlad. Prahlad replied that Lord Vishnu is universal. He is available everywhere; he resides in every corner. Then Hiranyakashyapa pointed to a pillar of his house and asked his sons that what is this Vishnu in this pillar as well? Prahlad said yes there is too. Then getting angry, the king tried to break the pillars with his mace, as soon as the pillars were broken, Lord Vishnu appeared there in the form of Narasimha, partly human, partly as lion. Then he killed Hiranyakashyapa in a way that one can never even imagine.

1) Hiranyakashyapa had got a boon that he would neither die during the day nor at night. Then God chose the evening time to kill him.

2) Hiranyakashyapa had got a boon that he would not die by any weapon. Then Lord Narasimha tore his stomach with his big nails and pulled out his intestines from the body.

3) Hiranyakashyapa had got a boon that no human, or animal, demon, or God, can kill him. Then Lord Narasimha killed him by taking the form of Narasimha, which was neither an animal form nor a human form.

4) Hiranyakashyapa had got a boon that no one can kill him in water, land or sky. Then Lord Narasimha(नरसिंह) killed him by making him sleep on his thigh.

5) Hiranyakashyapa(हिरण्यकश्यप) had got a boon that no one can kill him either inside or outside the house. Then Lord Narasimha killed him on the threshold of the house.

Friends, think about how bizarre the law is. I will say this much, the one who has created the world has already made a way for destruction. No matter how strong the evil is, one day it has to be destroyed.

Jai Shri Krishna!
