Cheiraoba is a Lunar New Year

It marks the beginning of the Lunar New Year for the Meitei people living in Manipur and elsewhere.

While followers of Meitei's indigenous religion Sanamahism(सनमहिज्म) celebrate it on the first day of the lunar new year, followers of Vaishnava Hindus celebrate it on 13 or 14 April every year according to the solar Hindu calendar.

Mostly Meitei People Celebrates Cheiraoba

On the day, Meitei people clean their houses and decorate them wearing their fine traditional attire to mark the occasion. eromba, pakora, ooty and many other traditional dishes are prepared and offered to the local deity. Recipes are also exchanged with neighbours, along with they display colorful flowers and incense sticks in front of the gate of the house.
