When is Bhai Dooj Festival?

This festival celebrates in all over the India but in different times, different ways as well as different rituals. Bhai Dooj called as “Bhai Tika”, “Bhaubeej”, “Bhai Beej”, “Bhai Phonta” or “Bhratri Dwitiya” is a festival celebrated by Hindus on the second lunar day of the “Shukla Paksha” also called the bright fortnight of Kartika month. It is celebrated during the Diwali festival. The rituals are almost same like Raksha Bandhan.

Yama Dwitiya

On the day, in the south part of India, people celebrated as “Yama Dwitiya”. Same festivals celebrate in different names, in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh called Bhai Dooj. In Bengal, celebrated as “Bhai Phota” which comes one day after Kali Puja.

The Significance of Bhai Dooj

This festival is basically, the festival of Bhai Dooj is celebrated with rituals that showcase the relationship of brothers and sisters. In the rituals basically sister made different types of delicious recipes and sweets as brother liked and sister do puja of her brother by applying Tika with Vermillion and Akshat on the forehead, after that sister take his arti. The brother blesses his sister and gives her some gifts or cash in return. This festival is basically to keep a good relation between brother and sister and respect as well as love each other. Brother always share gifts with his sister such as clothes, utensils, mithai and fruits or any fabulous gifts as per the brother’s income on the occasion of Bhai Dooj.
