About Amla Navami 2025, Akshaya Navami, Jagaddhatri Puja 2025

Amla Navami, why is called Akshaya Navami (अक्षय नवमी)

Amla Navami is also called Akshaya Navami. According to the Sanatan calendar, Amla Navami fast is observed on Shukla Paksha Navami Tithi in the month of Kartik. This day is very auspicious. Navami Tithi remains the whole day on that day. That is why it is called Akshaya Navami like Akshaya Tritiya. The word "Akshaya" means "never diminishing", which highlights that any charity or devotional act, business or any auspicious works done on this day brings life-long benefits.

The Significance of Amla Navami (आंवला नवमी)

Amla tree is worshipped on the day of Amla Navami. Some people also keep fast on this day. It is said that Goddess Lakshmi resides in Amla tree. Mother Lakshmi likes Amla fruits and leaves a lot. That is why in Odisha, during the Lakshmi puja which is performed in the month of Margashira called “Manabasa Gurubar”, amla fruits and leaves are definitely offered to Mother Lakshmi. Amla tree is worshipped on a regular basis just like Tulsi leaves are worshipped. Having Amla plants or tree at home is considered very auspicious.

Akshaya Navami is regarded as the day of in-exhaustible virtue. It is said that the first of the four yugas in Sanatan cosmology, the Satya Yuga, began on this day, marked as Satya Yuga. Just as Akshaya Tritiya marks the beginning of Treta Yuga, Akshaya Navami celebrates the dawn of Satya Yuga.

On the day of Akshaya Navami, people in East India such as Bengal, some parts of Assam and Odisha perform Jagaddhatri Puja as Goddess Durga under the Amla tree.
